What Information do Job Seekers Want From a Job Ad?

Everyone has different wants and needs. Especially when it comes to applying for a new job. But the reality is…  you are not able to meet the needs of all job seekers.

When job seekers begin the hunt for their “ideal animal care job” they typically know what specifications the job must meet. It could be they recently found out they are welcoming a new baby into the world, so medical benefits are a must-have. Or they are a college student and need an employer who can offer a flexible schedule.

When creating a job advertisement, you want to include ALL the information that job seekers are looking for. If your ad stands out and grabs their attention, they can begin to visualize working there!

The question is…

What grabs the attention of a job seeker?

According to data gathered by Glassdoor, these are the top five pieces of information that job seekers want employers to provide in job ads:

1. Salary/Compensation

Everyone wants to get paid! When looking for a new job, they are hoping to find either the same rate of pay as their current job or higher. So, include the pay and also be sure that your pay is competitive with animal care companies relative to yours. (A quick tip is to list the pay at the beginning of the ad in a way that is easy to see!)

2. Benefits

This can be a huge deal breaker for job seekers. You want to list any and all benefits! 401k, vision, health, dental, paid holidays, PTO, etc. Show the candidates what you have to offer, and include them all!

3. Basic company information

What is your business? Where is your business located? How long have you been in business? Put yourself in the shoes of an applicant. Include the information you would want to know before applying for a job. Break down what a typical day would look like if they got hired. That will help the applicant visualize what their new day-to-day life would be like.

4. What makes it an attractive place to work

Start bragging! Let them know why they would be lucky to work for your business. Does a taco truck park outside the building every Tuesday for lunch? Include that! Even the smallest details can go a long way in persuading a job seeker to want to be a part of your business.

5. Company mission, vision, values

What is your company mission? Explain what your company strives to accomplish. Why you do what you do! Talk about the current and future goals of the company. Let them know that as a company you try to live up to certain standards. Include the ways that take care of your current employees.

Trying to get your job ad to stand out is one thing, but actually getting the candidate to apply is a whole different ball game. By using these 5 tips you will see a drastic improvement in your applicant flow!
